Where I have been

There are times in your life when you realise you have no control and times when you realise you have got to take a hold of your dreams and make them happen.

This past week I finally got my results and in all honesty I was not happy. I wasn’t really disappointed but rather annoyed that the hard work I put in didn’t show in my grades. Still I was quite calm and accepting with the results I got. A part of me is glad that I got my second choice out of the first choice. I think In the back of my mind I wasn’t really even sure what I wanted to do. I’m still really young and if I really wanted to do x y z course I can most definitely go and do it. Nothing is ever to late everyone! 😜

I really believe everything happens for a reason. This taught me the extent I have to put to achieve my dreams and boy do I have to try really really hard.
I will be starting my first year as a Computer science student. πŸ™€It is kind of intimating and exciting at the same time. It definitely will open more doors and opportunities for me. At the same time dancing is something I want to pursue. I recently can back from a dance intensive and I loved it so much, 😍😍 more than I expected! Even though the days were long I enjoyed every moment. I think I could even do it for the rest of my life!

Whoever is reading this, know that dreams are always possible to achieve. Why would you have them in the first place? But it’s up to you not anyone else to make things happen. There are going to bumps in your path but they will teach you more than success ever will. πŸ˜‰

Hope you enjoyed this post, sorry I have super MIA lately!

As always see you in my next post!

May

Whenever I feel like my mind is overwhelmed by thoughts I love to go on walks to think about them.

Splits progress from almost a year of ballet.( I have both sides now)

Hello August!

Hey everyone!~

Another new month now, summer is ticking away very fast. It’s currently pretty rainy and cloudy outside, not much one can do with this weather. But besides this fact, I have been waiting with great patience for many things that are happening this coming August. πŸ™‚

My summer is a ticking away fast and I can’t wait until it is over, as weird as it sounds! Everything seems to happen towards the end of summer. It is in August where I would be able to attend a dance intensive in Dublin. (The Dance Institute).

As I am not a life-long dancer and late- starter this intensive will be catered towards my level. Besides ballet, we will be doing modern and contemporary, jazz, Tap (which I am looking forward to), pilates, Street and Ballroom. I honestly have no experience in any of these dances however I am looking forward to dancing ballet, which I will be doing every day alongside jazz. It will be an amazing experience I cannot wait! At the same time, I don’t want to have extremely high expectations as it might not be what I expect. In all honesty, I am a bit apprehensive as I am already 17 and I feel like many of the dancers will be young dancers. Thankfully, as I am of Asian descent, I look younger than I really am. For once I am grateful to be seen as more youthful! πŸ˜‰ Many people seem to assume I am fifteen or younger than my real age and now I can honestly say this will definitely help me in the ballet world.

It is also at this month that I will be getting my Leaving Cert results (click here to read about the Leaving Cert). Last month, in June I sat my leaving cert exams which will determine whether I get into the University of my choice. I think it would be equivalent to the A Levels in the UK and SATS in America. Basically, it takes your grades and adds them up in points which determine your place in Uni. Coincidentally, the day I get my results will be the same time I will be attending my summer intensive.

I am planning on pursuing Physiotherapy as my major which will be a full-time 4-year course in RCSI (Royal College of Surgeons). At the same time, I want to develop my love for dancing, which will be quite difficult in consideration of my choice of major. However, I am very optimistic about the future, my ballet teacher; Ms. S. is setting a provisional timetable where we would have three classes a week on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

If you are following ballet.to (me by the way) You might have seen a similar post I did to this one. That’s right I stole content from another website which is mine! Hehehe But, I will let you I have tweaked in some ways to suit the time frame.

Hope you guys have a lovely week! As always see you in my next post.

Earth Overshoot day and Gratitude

This was actually a small hill. I always feel like I’m going to fall down when I run down it! πŸ˜‚
These wild flowers are everywhere!

On August the 4th was Earth Overshoot day, and I only heard about it for the first time. It was only when I was looking through my Instagram account from WWF did I know of this day. To think I have been on this earth for 17 years and still did not know anything about it! It is quite appalling! Do you know what it is about?

If you don’t know what it is I will tell you.  #earthovershootday marks the day where mankind has consumed all the natural resources than nature can give. What’s worst is that this day was marked earlier than it should be, seven months to be precise. 😦

I know this is extremely depressing but it must be addressed to let the world know how serious the problem of damaging the earth is, let alone climate change. It’s a sad reality.

On a brighter note, because of this awareness, it has made me more conscious of the beautiful earth we live in. Perhaps the reason why people are not respecting and caring the earth is that they don’t get to experience its splendor. They have not traveled to see the real world, of green lush fields, snow-capped mountains, and clear crystal rivers.

Nowadays kids are brought up in cities, not because their parents want to but perhaps because it is the most convenient place for both parents and children. And whilst they do seem to be able to see nature’s wonders in books, nothing compares to being physically present in these places.

I’m glad I live in rural areas, everyone is so much more animated and expressive. While city life can be exciting, it can be overwhelming at the same time, though I do love it!

Lately, I have been running during the mornings by myself and I can’t help myself by stopping to take some pictures.

I run under this trial. It has made my running life so much easier especially since the trees are there to shade me when I am hot and the sun is burning. πŸ˜‰
I hope this post is insightful and by no means is it to make your day depressing! I just want to make people more aware of what is really happening. But I know we are all helping the best we can. There is still hope!

Whoever is reading this I hope you have an awesome day! See you in my next post.

Much love

What I learnt from plants

Today I went to visit my sister who lives in another town a couple of miles from our home. She is a nurse-in-training and lives by herself and is in her last year of uni. Her house is so unlike my own. Outside cars can be heard bustling around and men chatting could be seen coming out of the nearby pub. At home silence is our guest and nature is everywhere. Cars are generally heard once in a while, not a lot though. So coming to her house made me really appreciate nature and its beauty. I don’t think I would be able to live in the city without being surrounded by greenery and flowers.

This realisation gave me the opportunity to relish in the few plants my sister has in her house. Funny how sometimes the most prettiest things are right in front of you, yet we don’t see it!

You may be wondering why I named this post “Be a Cactus.” It’s because even in such a perilous environment  this cactus still seems to survive. It overcomes many obstacles by retaining water and growing long roots in order to live. It is extremely resilient. Furthermore, though it is silent its thorns are its deadliest weapon that can harm even the biggest predator. A.k.a humans. πŸ˜‰

I guess what I am trying to articulate is that we are like plants in many ways. We live and survive off of one another.

Though it’s clear we have many difference. E.g. Our anatomy plants teach us that life is valuable and that we should be more assured of ourselves. Obstacles that come our way can be easily overcomed. Like the polluted enviornment we have our own which can be array of many things but we can still be the person we want to be. I think this is a nice notion to have, even if it may be a little naive. Let me know how you view it, do you think I am wrong or right?

My, me and I

Hey Everyone~

You might have guessed from the title today is all about me! (Not in an egotistical sense) But just so you can all get to know me better. When I started blogging, I had so many ideas in my head. Thus it has created an absolute chaos onto my blog, so much so I have forgotten to introduce myself properly. Also I have decided to change my name from “hitherandyond” to a more defining name that speaks to me, simply because it is similar to my real name. πŸ˜‰

When I started blogging, I had so many ideas in my head. Thus it has created an absolute chaos filled with random thoughts and topic onto my blog, so much so I have forgotten to introduce myself properly with 10 facts about myself.

  1. I was born a twin, not identical. I have a twin sister who is 5 minutes younger than I am. πŸ™‚
  2. I am left-handed! Any left- handed people out there?
  3. I love dogs AND cats. In the future, I would like to adopt either one of them and maybe more.
    IMAG3395
This is my sister’s cat. πŸ™‚
    4. I have four sisters and no brothers. Coincidentally I wrote this for the fourth fact!

5. I don’t drink Coffee and prefer herbal tea over anything else.

Tea anyone?

6. I can speak Mandarin fluently as well as Cantonese, although I am a bit rusty since I haven’t spoken Cantonese in a long time. And of course, English too!

7. The Library used to be my second home, I went there since I was five and till this day I still hold the old addition of the library card. My favorite genre would have to be historical fiction because you get an insight into the past and the lives of people long ago.

Books on my bookshelf. πŸ™‚

8. I dance! Ballet to be more precise. However, I am not the conventional dancer who began discovering the dance world as a young girl. I started quite late at sixteen. It has made me more persistent than ever to defy the standard route for dancers. I also have a dance blog!

9. I love photography, as you might have noticed, especially nature ones.

Love this picture. ❀
10. I grew up watching spirited away, Howl’s Moving Castle and other prominent Studio Ghibli animations. My love of art flourished as a kid. Disney has also been a source of magical moments in my childhood as well as DreamWorks. You could say I have always been an artist at heart.

Hope you guys enjoyed getting to know a little about me. As always have a good day and I will see you in my next post. πŸ˜‰

ps. Thank You for 60 followers! I haven’t been posting an awful lot and the content I have is somewhat random so thank you for being patient and kind. πŸ™‚

The act of just Walking

Hey Everyone~

Recently I have found myself becoming more focused on just, Living life to the fullest. After countless days of rest from graduating from school, I have found myself seeking something more. Though I can’t put my finger on it. I have spent many days enjoying the nice weather going in and out from my house door but learning nothing whilst I do it.

But today I have learned something special that I know will help a lot of people out there. This morning I woke up prepared to go on a morning walk with my mum. So, we went out the door and so began the walking. If any one of you live in the rural parts of your country you will realize that the ground is a perfect pooping spot for dogs!

While walking, I am one of those people that like to look down at the ground for no apparent reason. And just as I was walking, I saw one of those unnecessary bundle lying on the ground in front of me. I knew I needed to avoid it. Before I was even an inch close to it my mum said:

“Watch out, don’t step on it!”

And I was like:

“I know. I’m not stupid.”

Then my mum replied(something along the lines of):

“I know. I am giving you a warning, not anything that describes your intellect.”

That struck me. I realized it was me who was at fault, as hard as it is to admit it. Nobody likes to be wrong and I can tell you truthfully this morning walk was not the best despite the fortunate weather! I found that it was me that believed I was stupid. A disappointment. A failure.

Though other people may have made it clear what they perceive of us, direct or in other indirect ways. More often than it is us that make a judgment of how others see us.

I made a judgment that my mum thought I was stupid. But really it was me who thought that she thought I was stupid. So, it was actually me who is at fault. Sometimes we assume things that are not always right, though it may be obvious otherwise. Still, it is better to not assume, as hard as it is already. The brain can do a lot of things within a second.

Hope you guys enjoyed this little life lesson. Let me know what you think and are you learning anything in your life?

As always see you in my next post! πŸ™‚

Much Love-

Beautiful weather for days!

Is summer over? And update.Β

Summers in  Ireland are very scarcely and when there is sun it usually lasts for only a couple of hours before clouds cover the sky again. Luckily, this summer we were able to experience the cool and warm weather of summer. Temperatures were quite high, around 20Β° and up. But nothing compared to our counterpart in London at 29Β°

However, I don’t really mind the heat. More often I usually visit my family across the world where temperatures are hotter and the climate more tropical. So you could say I am very used to hot weather. Unfortunately, this year I won’t be traveling across the world. With, uni just around the corner and summer intensive to attend it is very hectic, at the moment.

Here’s a photo of how beautiful summers can be here in Ireland.β™‘β™‘β™‘

As opposed to what everyday would look like. Very dull and dark, usually. But these days are great for hot chocolate beside a cosy fire. β™‘β™‘

This year has been an amazing year for me. I started my own blog around this time last year and I graduated from school. I can’t wait to start a new chapter in my life and to bring you guys along with me. I don’t know what the future has in store for me but hopefully it is an interesting one filled with big bumps and unexpected moments!

You can only see when something is not there

It has been many weeks since my last post and I can happily say the weight of state exams(Leaving Certificate in Ireland) and stress has been lifted off of my shoulder and now I can freely enjoy my summer. Completing the Leaving Cert has made me realize how focused my life was always around school. For the last five years, my summers have been spent preparing for either the year ahead or for imminent exams. Thus, I never truly took a break. I was constantly thinking about the future and I would always make the most of my time studying.

Reflecting back, sometimes despite it being good intentions on my part to sit down and learn, my mind did not want to. So, it was more counter-productive than productive. But what kept me motivated to study was really the thought of getting out of school and finally being able to “really” live. I’m not sure if you understand this sentiment or am I the only person who feels this way?…Nevertheless, I was still able to do many activities outside of school and I was also able to discover passions I had for certain things like music, art, and dance. They really helped me live through the monotony of everyday life. Don’t get me wrong though, I really do love school, however, I also believe that sometimes it can really be oppressing rather than stimulating. In my case and I believe for everybody too, it prevented me from reaching my full potential. Life is about experiencing things and learning out of the failures we receive in life lessons but how can we learn when we are not out there? All the missed opportunities are not going to go unnoticed, for me anyways and I hope for me you too. We will just have to wait and see what the future has in store for us.

I love this quote, I think it encapsulates this post very well and my life at the moment too! πŸ˜‰
Hey, you! Yeah, you! To all my followers thank you for following me and reading about my musings and about my life. Also a million thanks to those who comment and show an immense amount of thoughtfulness. I would never have thought how far blogging would allow me to connect with such a vast number of people from such different parts of the world! It’s really incredible.

As always, see you in my next post!

this is me! On Graduation Day! Thought I would share with you all and not remain inconspicuous anymore!

in midst of sorrow

In midst of sorrow, we shan’t linger in what we have lost,

But to ponder the great things our

lost have allowed us to realize,

And that is living is precious.

We will meet them in time,

In the meantime live life with vigor

For they who have perished lived

their lives to bring smiles to

others.

And, unknowingly to yours too.

Hello Readers, once again another brutal fatality has occurred and the most upsetting part of it is the innocent lives they have claimed. To all the victims this is a short musing/ poem I have written to remember them.

Fluid like water

Dear Readers,

What do you do when life presents to you a brick wall that prevents you from going further? This is the feeling I am feeling right now; in a stump, unable to get near or far from anything I have set myself to achieve. Along the way, I have somehow forgotten my goals and the fire I once have has nearly been extinguished but not entirely. Life really is life the fluidity of water but it’s up to you to go against the currents and pave your own path, at least that is what I have come to comprehend in my life. I spend so much time putting aside my goals to focus on other things that I almost forget about them in the long- run. I want you to know that life is only ever lived once- not that you don’t know, but just a friendly reminder that this is your only shot. πŸ˜‰ Ask questions later, who know what life will bring!

A question to ask yourself.

As always, see you in my next post. xxx
