What I learnt from plants

Today I went to visit my sister who lives in another town a couple of miles from our home. She is a nurse-in-training and lives by herself and is in her last year of uni. Her house is so unlike my own. Outside cars can be heard bustling around and men chatting could be seen coming out of the nearby pub. At home silence is our guest and nature is everywhere. Cars are generally heard once in a while, not a lot though. So coming to her house made me really appreciate nature and its beauty. I don’t think I would be able to live in the city without being surrounded by greenery and flowers.

This realisation gave me the opportunity to relish in the few plants my sister has in her house. Funny how sometimes the most prettiest things are right in front of you, yet we don’t see it!

You may be wondering why I named this post “Be a Cactus.” It’s because even in such a perilous environment  this cactus still seems to survive. It overcomes many obstacles by retaining water and growing long roots in order to live. It is extremely resilient. Furthermore, though it is silent its thorns are its deadliest weapon that can harm even the biggest predator. A.k.a humans. 😉

I guess what I am trying to articulate is that we are like plants in many ways. We live and survive off of one another.

Though it’s clear we have many difference. E.g. Our anatomy plants teach us that life is valuable and that we should be more assured of ourselves. Obstacles that come our way can be easily overcomed. Like the polluted enviornment we have our own which can be array of many things but we can still be the person we want to be. I think this is a nice notion to have, even if it may be a little naive. Let me know how you view it, do you think I am wrong or right?

You can only see when something is not there

It has been many weeks since my last post and I can happily say the weight of state exams(Leaving Certificate in Ireland) and stress has been lifted off of my shoulder and now I can freely enjoy my summer. Completing the Leaving Cert has made me realize how focused my life was always around school. For the last five years, my summers have been spent preparing for either the year ahead or for imminent exams. Thus, I never truly took a break. I was constantly thinking about the future and I would always make the most of my time studying.

Reflecting back, sometimes despite it being good intentions on my part to sit down and learn, my mind did not want to. So, it was more counter-productive than productive. But what kept me motivated to study was really the thought of getting out of school and finally being able to “really” live. I’m not sure if you understand this sentiment or am I the only person who feels this way?…Nevertheless, I was still able to do many activities outside of school and I was also able to discover passions I had for certain things like music, art, and dance. They really helped me live through the monotony of everyday life. Don’t get me wrong though, I really do love school, however, I also believe that sometimes it can really be oppressing rather than stimulating. In my case and I believe for everybody too, it prevented me from reaching my full potential. Life is about experiencing things and learning out of the failures we receive in life lessons but how can we learn when we are not out there? All the missed opportunities are not going to go unnoticed, for me anyways and I hope for me you too. We will just have to wait and see what the future has in store for us.

Fluid like water

Dear Readers,

What do you do when life presents to you a brick wall that prevents you from going further? This is the feeling I am feeling right now; in a stump, unable to get near or far from anything I have set myself to achieve. Along the way, I have somehow forgotten my goals and the fire I once have has nearly been extinguished but not entirely. Life really is life the fluidity of water but it’s up to you to go against the currents and pave your own path, at least that is what I have come to comprehend in my life. I spend so much time putting aside my goals to focus on other things that I almost forget about them in the long- run. I want you to know that life is only ever lived once- not that you don’t know, but just a friendly reminder that this is your only shot. 😉 Ask questions later, who know what life will bring!

A question to ask yourself.

As always, see you in my next post. xxx

The rose that grew even in Winter

I hope whoever reads this may find these quotes useful and motivating in the new year of 2017. These quotes really made me realize how stagnant I live – I wake up, go to school, do my homework, scroll through my phone, eat, sleep. Nothing I do every single day will make me proud or happy when I think of how I will feel when I look back on my life. I know I will remember the time wasted and the time I lost in forgetting to pursue my goals. I am sure I am not the only one who lives like this today, but perhaps I am the only one who realizes it. Therefore, I want to share with you all these powerful words that I believe will change this year.

EDIT: forgot to post this even though I had written it!

Quote day III

Good morning all! Today is the last day of the quote challenge for me and unfortunately the last day of winter break. I am not ready to face the next few months filled with exams and homework, but I am positively sure I will survive it.

These were the only white roses in my garden and surprising were the ones who lived through the cold winter. They remind me to stay strong and most of all beautiful in both inside and outside.

Without further ado here are my last three quotes of the challenge! And Thank You, Maya Rose for nominating me.

1. “Every dream begins wth a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion; to reach the stars, to change the world”  -Harriet Tubman

2. “What is the point of being on this earth if you are going to be like everyone else.” -Arnold Schwarzenegger

3. “If you are lucky enough to be different from everyone else…..don’t change” – Unknown

amazing quote few people epitomize. As we grow up we are hardened and changed by society and we slowly grow far from who we once were when we were children.   We grow up.

Dear readers hope you all have a lovely day. Stay golden. 😉

Awaiting Raindeers | Quote Day I

Quote Day I

Heellloooo!  Merry Christmas Eve everyone! I hope everyone is spending time with people they love. SO, it’s been quite a while since my last post *aheemm about a month ago* but I’m here again!

These past few months have been hectic and extremely busy. I am sure many of you know about the exams I will be taking this school year. And so this has resulted in tedious about of time spent studying and doing class exams. This week was my final week in school but unfortunately, this meant I had Christmas exams coming up. Luckily they went well for me and I have not only studied the required material but predicted the questions for many of the imminent exams. I am glad to say I feel as light as a snowflake after those stressful days!

Also, I have been nominated for the “3 Days 3 Quotes Challenge” by Maya at https://maysarose.wordpress.com/ (Thanks for nominating me! This has been the first challenge since I started blogging in late July and I am so happy this is my first one! Although it is a slightly late post!)

Anyways, here is how the challenge works!

  1.  Thank the blogger who nominated you 🙂
  2. Post three quotes for 3 days
  3. Nominate 3 bloggers per day
  4. Inform the nominees

A quote a day always makes my day but I guess thrice a day would make it even better. Here are my three quotes of today:

  1. “You can’t a rainbow without a little rain.” -Unknown.

  2. When you believe in a thing, believe it in all the way, implicitly and unquestionably. – Walt Disney.

  3. Y0u are never too old to set another goal or dream a new dream. – C .S Lewis.

Here are three nominees I have chosen:

  1. Moa at https://moandreasson.wordpress.com/ for her always amazing post that I always look forward to reading and her beautiful and aesthetic pictures.
  2. Denise at https://dreamerdenise.wordpress.com/ for that lovely comment that made me realize we all just dreamers in this small world.
  3. Harriet at https://aballetoflife.com/ for her insight into the wonderful world of ballet dancers.

I know how life can get in the way of things so for all you nominees don’t worry if you can’t partake in the challenge as soon as you would like. Good luck to everyone and I look forward to reading your posts soon! 🙂

And that’s a wrap everyone. Good day!
